A health coach is tasked with a number of responsibilities while working with clients. The primary duty of a health coach is to assess a potential client’s eligibility for their program and, should the client be accepted, to support that client in eliminating his or her high-risk behaviors. Helping individuals replace detrimental habits with healthier lifestyle choices is another prominent aspect of a health coach’s job. Health coaches facilitate the adoption of a healthier lifestyle by creating customized care plans and clearly defined goals.
In addition to promoting improved dietary and exercise behaviors, a health coach is expected to act in the best interest of his or her employer while simultaneously maintaining the highest possible levels of client satisfaction.
Not all of a health coach’s responsibilities relate directly to a single client or customer base. Sometimes coaches are expected to design and carry out various health and wellness seminars that can be taken by any interested individual. Similarly, health coaches can also spend time assembling and distributing educational materials that can further enhance a person’s level of physical fitness.
